“My maternal grandparents were in the WWII Japanese Internment camps. My grandmother was in a camp in Gila, Arizona from 1942-1945. My grandfather was at a camp in Jerome, Arkansas, then served in the US military in Japan.

My mother is Japanese-American, and my father is white. They both grew up in California. My mother was never taught Japanese.

I grew up in California in a multigenerational home with my parents and grandparents. My grandparents have passed away. I do not speak Japanese but I am trying to teach myself. I looked this up on Google Translate.”
